Missouri has 115 counties including the City of St. Louis.

  • The County Recorder of Deeds maintains land deeds, marriage records, and Military Discharge papers recorded in the county, as well as filed Home School Declarations.
  • The Circuit Court Clerk maintains records of divorce filed in the circuit (one or more counties).
  • The County Health Department maintains records of births and deaths occurring in the county, except in St. Louis City where the Recorder is also Vital Records Registrar.
    • The St. Louis City Recorder and Registrar can issue certified copies of most birth records dated 1920 to Present from any Missouri County.
    • The St. Louis City Recorder and Registrar can issue certified copies of most death records dated 1980 to present from any Missouri county
