Marriage Application and

Marriage License

Public Information

1932-Present Missouri public marriage records consist of

  • Marriage Applications

  • Marriage Licenses

  • Parental Consent Affidavits

Research Warning: Parent Information Not Required in Missouri, Exception-

The Only Public Marriage Record Document with name of a parent of a Bride or Groom is a Parental Consent Affidavit for marriage of underage Applicant.

Research Warning: 1948-1980 Pre-marital Blood Test Forms are not public records.

This is one of the reasons why customers are not permitted to retrieve documents themselves.

1881-1948 Marriage Applications include the following Bride and Groom information:

  • Name
  • Age
  • Street Address
  • Signature
  • Race was not a specific question on the Application. Marriage License Clerks, however, would mark the Application with a "C" for "Colored" when an Applicant appeared to the Clerk to be other than Caucasian and the Applicant's name also received a "C" next to it in the Bride or Groom Index.

July 1948-1975 Marriage Applications include the following Bride and Groom information:

  • Name
  • Race (added to Application in 1948 as a specific question)
  • Age, Birth Date, and Birthplace
  • Street Address
  • Widow/Widower or Divorcee Status
  • Signature

1975-Present Marriage Applications include the following Bride and Groom information:

  • Name
  • Race
  • Age, Birth Date, and Birthplace
  • Street Address
  • Widow/Widower or Divorcee Status
  • If divorced, date divorce finalized
  • If widowed, date of spouse's death
  • Highest level of education achieved
  • Signature

1881-2007 Marriage Licenses include:

  • Bride and Groom Names
  • County of residence
  • Whether Bride and Groom are of the age of majority and, if underage, name of parent or guardian who provided parental consent.
  • Name, title (clergy title, judge, justice of the peace) and address of person who officiated at Marriage Ceremony, sometimes a church name.

2007-Present Marriage Licenses include:

  • Bride and Groom Names
  • County of Residence
  • Bride and Groom Ages. If a minor, name of parent or guardian who provided parental consent.
  • Name, title (clergy title, judge, justice of the peace) and address of person who officiated at Marriage Ceremony, sometimes a church name.

Research Warning: The clergyperson's address is often not a church but, rather, the adjacent or nearby parsonage, rectory, vicarage, sometimes with a street name different from the church; or other home address of the clergyperson.

1881-2007 Parental Consent Affidavits include:

  • Parent or Guardian Name and Signature,
    Address not required
  • Occasionally, a Parent or Guardian submitted a letter as to consent, which would include an address
  • Occasionally, a third party would provide a statement or documentation regarding an Applicant being without a living parent

2007-Present Parental Consent Affidavits include:
