Consumer Alert: Homeowners, Beware of
Overpriced Deed Copy Service

The Recorders Association of Missouri warns homeowners to ignore letters coming from the Fulton, Missouri mailbox of Record Retrieval urging purchase of property deed copies at $87.00 per copy and a response time of 21 days.

The mailings come from Record Retrieval, 602 Market Street #311, Fulton, phone 888.851.4485.

"The cost for a deed copy in St. Louis City is $3.00 for the first page, $2.00 for each page thereafter of each deed, and $2.00 for certification if requested. Warranty deeds average 1-2 pages. Response time for walk-in copy service is a few minutes and mail-in requests go out in return mail same day received," explains Sharon Quigley Carpenter, St. Louis City Recorder of Deeds.

"This isn't the first time that Missouri's county Recorders have had to issue consumer alerts on deed copy services. In 2007, National Deed Service, Inc., of Northbrook, Illinois, was offering the same service for the then outrageous fee of $69.50."

City property owners with questions about deed copy services may call the City Recorder and Registrar's Land Records Department at 613.3149.

Birth Certificate Purchase,
Filing Home School Declaration
Takes Only A Few Minutes At City Hall

The St. Louis City Recorder of Deeds reminds parents of school children that City Hall offers fast, efficient Missouri Birth Certificate copy service and Home School Declaration filing.

The City Recorder and Registrar's Birth Records Department provides Birth Certificates for births anywhere in Missouri from 1920 to present.

Whether your child was born in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, or elsewhere in Missouri, you can purchase school required Birth Certificates between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 127, City Hall, 1200 Market.

The cost for a certified copy by walk-in service is $15.00 cash only. ATMs are located in Room 104 (License Collector) and Room 109 (Collector of Revenue).

As of February 28, 2011, the State of Missouri requires photo identification for walk-in vital records service or a notarized affidavit for mail-in service.

On some days during August-September school enrollment, the City Recorder and Registrar will issue an average of one Birth Certificate copy per minute. Parents are encouraged to print and complete the Birth Certificate Copy Form available at www.stlouiscityrecorder.org before visiting the office. Answers to most birth records questions are available on the website. Customers may also call 314.613.3015.
